UFC women’s strawweight and flyweight contender Jessica Andrade says she wants a wants title shot following her dominant win over Lauren Murphy at UFC 283.
Andrade won a lopsided decision over Murphy at UFC 283 as she outstruck her opponent by a heavy margin in all three of the rounds. Although Murphy showed incredible durability by making it to the final bell, it was still an incredibly dominant performance by Andrade. It was the kind of win that will keep her in the title picture in whatever division she fights in next.
That’s because Andrade is actually ranked in the top 10 at both 115lbs and 125lbs, and she would be interested in fighting for the belt in either weight class next. Speaking to the media following UFC 283, Andrade mentioned that she would is open to fighting either the strawweight champion Weili Zhang or the flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko in rematches next. However, if it was up to her, she would fight Zhang next.
“I feel like now is the opportunity for the belt. I want to fight for the belt at 52 kilos (115 pounds), or 57 (125 pounds) if the opportunity arises as well. “I really want that rematch with Weili. I really wanted it to be in Brazil. I went to China, so I think that would be fair. The rematch would be really cool. That’s the next step: Have the rematch with Weili,” Andrade said (via MMAjunkie.com).
Zhang currently does not have an opponent lined up, so it’s certainly possible that Andrade could fight her next. As for Shevchenko, she is fighting Alexa Grasso next. Regardless of whether she’s fighting at 115lbs or 125lbs, it’s clear that Andrade is one of the best fighters in either weight class, and she can’t be more than one win away from a title shot at either one.
Do you want to see Jessica Andrade fight for the women’s strawweight or women’s flyweight title next following her one-sided win over Lauren Murphy at UFC 283?
