Jonathan Haggerty released from hospital, opponent says ‘we do have matters to finish’

Feared English striker Jonathan Haggerty was set to return to ONE Championship for a sixth time when he was scheduled to meet Walter Goncalves in a flyweight Muay Thai Grand Prix quarterfinal matchup this past Friday, May 20 at ONE: 157 in Singapore.

Instead, Haggerty fell ill and had to make a trip to the hospital, instead of compete. Goncalves then made quick work of late replacement Josue Cruz as Haggerty watched from his hospital bed.

“Discharged, thank you all for your continued support! It really has put me at ease,” Haggerty wrote in a post on his Instagram story a few short hours later.

“I will be back stronger, believe me,” he added, with a picture of himself giving a thumbs up.

Goncalves, arguably upset about Haggerty’s dismissal from the fight, released post-fight statements of his own.

“Yes, of course we do have matters to finish, because he teased me and now I want to show him in the ring what I showed him on the screen,” Goncalves said. “I hope he gets well soon, and gets strong and trains a lot, and gets prepared.”
