Jordan Espinosa outpoints Mark De La Rosa in decision win

The UFC remains in Las Vegas, Nevada for the third-straight week tonight, Saturday, June 13.

UFC on ESPN 10 takes place inside the UFC Apex and is headlined by a women’s flyweight bout between Jessica Eye and Cynthia Calvillo. The co-main event features a middleweight clash between Karl Roberson and Marvin Vettori.

Bantamweights Jordan Espinosa and Mark De La Rosa enter the bout under similar circumstances, desperate to re-enter the win column.

Espinosa dropped two-consecutive losses, most recently a first-round submission defeat to Alex Perez at UFC on ESPN+ 24 on Jan. 25. The 30-year-old was scheduled to fight newcomer Zhalgas Zhumagulov on June 13. The bout fell through due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

De La Rosa is on a three-fight skid and is winless since November 2018. In his last outing, he suffered a second-round knockout loss to Raulian Paiva at UFC on ESPN+ 25 on Feb. 15.

ROUND 1

The two tap gloves. De La Rosa works the jab early as he is center. Espinosa is circling on the outside. De la Rosa looks for a takedown early, misses. Espinosa establishing the jab early. Espinosa lands a leg kick as well. Espinosa lands a jab, De la Rose counters with right hand. Espinosa lands a left and another jab. Espinosa is hitting the jab at will. De La Rosa’s nose is showing redness. Espinosa lands a knee to the body as De La Rosa works for a takedown. De la Rosa puts Espinosa against the cage. De La Rosa not letting go of the legs. Espinsoa lands short punches as he defends the leg. De la Rosa still in on the leg, taking punches from Espinosa. Espinosa lands some elbows to the head of De La Rosa. Espinos landing some crisp elbows while De la Rosa continues to work for takedown. The round ends with De La Rosa on the leg, while Espinsa keeps landing punches.

Espinosa lands a right leg kick, while De La Rosa lands a leg kick of his own. De La Rosa lands a clean combination. Espinosa lands a one, two combination, but De La Rosa counters. Espinosa lands another jab. Espinosa lands leg kick, De la Rosa comes forward and lands a right. Round ends with both fighters squaring up.

Espinosa on the outside, lands a right leg kick. Espinosa puts De La Rosa against the cage. De la Rosa gets out and lands a right hand. De La Rosa is aggressive and comes forward. Espinosa shoots for a takedown and gets De La Rosa to the mat. Espinosa gets to his feet, while De La Rosa stays on his back. Espinosa goes back to the ground, lands some strikes from guard. De La Rosa is taking a lot of ground and pound from Espinosa. Espinosa circles on a scramble and works for a d’arce choke. Espinosa lets go of the choke, but goes back to it. De La Rosa bursts up and escapes to his feet. De La Rosa comes forward, misses a right hand. Espinosa earns a takedown. Espinosa gets his head out and works some ground and pound. Espinosa lands knee to the body and a right hand as De La Rosa gets to his feet. De la Rosa is center, lands a right uppercut. Espinosa continues to use the jab. Espinosa lands another jab. Espinosa lands a kick to the body, followed by a jab and circles out. De La Rosa lets his hands fly. De la Rosa lands outside leg kick. De La Rosa has Espinosa against the cage. Espinosa reverses the position. The two split and the round ends with the two trading briefly.
