Karate Combat’s Ladies Headline in Neo Tokyo in Episode 8

Karate Combat, Season two, Episode eight will feature their first women’s bout of the season. This one should be interesting as Christina Kavakopoulou is a dancer turned karateka from Greece, facing Fabiola Esquivel of Monterrey, Mexico. The ladies will headline the event over the Neo Tokyo virtual background they have been using this season that is sure to make for some fantastic visuals. This is the third change using virtual backgrounds generated by Unreal Engine.

Add this as another success for women in combat sports, especially for Karate Combat which has a mostly male roster. Both women have interesting stories as to how they found their way into karate, and Karate Combat. Kavakopoulou was a ballet dancer that found her way into karate when she went to meet up a friend at their karate class. The fluid movements from dance are not dissimilar to what is required for martial arts so the transition into karate seemed natural.

Esquivel is no stranger to Karate Combat and fought before but lost when the fight was waved off in a bout she felt she could have continued in. This time, she hoped to win against Kavakopoulou and grow with Karate Combat. She feels a win would not only help her fighting career but serve as a platform to empower women through martial arts.

“The Warrior of Light” Andrei Grinevich meets ‘The Wolf’ Achraf Ouchen in the first bout of the event. The two-fight episode will air at 7 P.M. EST and you can watch the event at beIN Sports USA, ESPN Desportes, Karate.com, and right here on MyMMANews. See the bout listing below:
