Matt Schnell vs Su Mudaerji slated for UFC on ABC 3

UFC on ABC 3, headlined by top five featherweight contenders Brian Ortega and Yair Rodriguez, has quickly become a card to watch, as they’ve already added 13 bouts to the lineup.

One intriguing bout of which comes in the flyweight division between Matt Schnell and Su Mudaerji.

UFC on ABC 3 is to go down on July 16, 2022, live from the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.

Matt Schnell (15-6) 1 NC vs Su Mudaerji (16-4)

Matt Schnell has had some pretty impressive performances throughout his career, but he’s also hiccupped here and there along the way. Coming to the UFC with a record of 10-2, Schnell would be KO’d in both his debut, and sophomore efforts with the promotion.

Following this however, he’d go on a four-fight win streak, ending with back-to-back first round triangle chokes. One of those taps came over Louis Smolka, who submitted Mudaerji in his UFC debut.

But Schnell would then run into Alexandre Pantoja, who KO’d him in the first round of their encounter, bringing his promotional record to 4-3; two wins via submission, two via decision, and all three defeats coming via first round KO.

Schnell rebounded with a victory over Tyson Nam (SD), before battling to a no contest (originally a loss) with Rogerio Bontorin. Next came his latest appearance, where after knocking Brandon Royval down with a thunderous punch, he was submitted (guillotine choke) at just 2:14 of round one.

Su Mudaerji is a prodigy of sorts who came to the UFC with a record of 13-3.

Following his promotional debut, a defeat to Louis Smolka as mentioned above, Mudaerji has won his last three-straight, capping it off with a victory over former professional kickboxing champion Zarrukh Adashev, who he beat entirely on the feet.

Now, of Mudaerji’s four defeats, all four come via submission, and Schnell is very dangerous on the mat.

But, at least not much damage comes from being submitted, more often than not.

Where Schnell can submit Mudaerji, should this fight hit the mat, the Chinese prospect can also knock Schnell out, should it remain on the feet, as 13 of his 16 wins come via knockout.

This is a very compelling match up that’s proven dangerous for both parties.

Who do you see coming out on top in this flyweight clash?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
