Norma Dumont faces boxing champion Danyelle Wolf at UFC 279

We’ve been informed of a very interesting 145 lb match up in the UFC’s attempt to keep the women’s featherweight division alive, and that’s where Norma Dumont takes on promotional debutante Danyelle Wolf at UFC 279.

UFC 279 is to go down on September 10, 2022, live on pay-per-view from a to-be-determined venue.

Now, many don’t know who Danyelle Wolf is, and that’s okay, we’ll introduce you to her.

Firstly, Wolf is a sizeable woman, standing 5’11” with a reach of 70” (Dumont is 5’7” with a reach of 67”). Then she has her boxing prowess, where she just may be the best in the sport regarding women’s divisions.

Wolf, according to BoxRec, took her first amateur boxing match in 2010, and had a considerable amount of success in the sport. From becoming a three-time United States National Champion in 2013, 2014, and 2015, to winning a National Golden Gloves title in 2014, she’s been adding nice accomplishments to her resume for some time now.

Wolf stuck around in the amateur boxing scene for years and years in hopes to become an Olympic champion.

The problem with this, in 2012, and in 2016, the Olympic Games did not host a women’s welterweight division, and by time the 2020 (2021) Olympics came around, when they did have that division, she’d be defeated in her Trials match and would shift her focus to MMA in her late 30’s.

Wolf debuted in mixed martial arts on the Contender Series nearly two years ago in 2020, where she picked up a unanimous decision victory over Taneisha Tennant, who was 5-0 at the time, and 6-1 today.

Then we have Norma Dumont, who is a six-time State Champion in Sanda, as well as a National Champion (Brazil) in that same art. Dumont then shifted her focus to mixed martial arts, where she’s gone 7-2 thus far, and is coming off a split decision upset defeat to The Ultimate Fighter 28 winner Macy Chiasson.

Both of these women had impressive combat careers prior to becoming mixed martial artists, it’ll be very interesting seeing this exciting match up play out.

Seven-time Sanda champion versus four-time boxing champion.

How do you see this women’s featherweight clash going down?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
