Renato Moicano vs. Jai Herbert Preview

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to Las Vegas, Nevada once again tonight on June 26.

It is the promotion’s 30th UFC Vegas event. Headlining the event comes a five-round bout of ranked heavyweights, as former Bellator and M-1 Challenge champion Alexander Volkov takes on former TKO champion Ciryl Gane.

Co-headlining the event comes another heavyweight bout, this one between Tanner Boser and Ovince Saint Preux.

Opening up the main card tonight was a lightweight bout between Renato Moicano and Jai Herbert. Moicano has gone 1-1 since moving up to 155 pounds, and Herbert is still in search of his first octagon victory.

Renato Moicano finishes Jai Herbert in two

Round 1

The two open up trading leg kicks, before Moicano lunges in to secure double under hooks. He telegraphed it, but Herbert is not a grappler, and wasn’t able to defend it.

Herbert did however get up, only to be dragged down again. Moicano is in Herbert’s half guard attempting to pass, and about a minute later secures mount.

Herbert makes his way back up and lands a thunderous overhand right, but Moicano ate it and remained unfazed. Herbert then lands a hard left hook, and while Moicano certainly didn’t like it, he was able to counter it with another double leg.

Moicano ends round one on top, and the story of the fight is evident at this point. If it stays on the feet, Herbert takes it. On the mat, Moicano is equally as superior to Herbert’s striking.

Round 2

Moicano secures another takedown to start round two and he’s handily mauling Herbert once again.

Herbert is attempting to escape here and there, not like in round one, as he’s fatigued at this point, but point being, every time he tries to get up, Moicano is ten steps ahead of him. He just regains mount each time.

With about a minute left in the round, Moicano landed a hard right hand from the top that had Herbert badly hurt. Moicano follows up with a number of punches, followed by the rear naked choke finish.

Seven of Moicano’s victories coming into this bout came via submission, all seven via rear naked choke. Nothing changed tonight.

Official Result: Renato Moicano def. Jai Herbert via submission (rear naked choke) at 4:34 of round two

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
