This Day in History for ONE Championship: ONE Immortal Pursuit happened

On This Day in History for ONE Championship, we go back to November 24th, 2017. ONE: Immortal Pursuit emanated from Singapore Indoor Stadium.

This martial arts extravaganza featured a world championship bout as well as a host of other consequential contests. Between former title contenders and rising prospects alike.

This Day in History for ONE Championship

In the main event of the night, Ben Askren once again successfully defended his ONE welterweight world championship. The title contender Shinya Aoki, a decorated lightweight world champion in ONE and multiple other promotions, was finished in less than a minute.

Aoki was coming off of losing his ONE lightweight world title to Eduard Folayang and was hoping to bounce back in a huge way with gold in a higher weight category. Alas, Askren would end up unleashing a torrent of fight-ending ground and pound punches whilst improving to 18-0 overall as a pro-MMA fighter.

Askren entered the first retirement of his mixed martial arts career after this victory. A decision that would end up changing less than a full calendar year later after the history-making trade with Demetrious Johnson between UFC and ONE Championship.

Amir Khan bested Adrian Pang in the co-main event of the ONE: Immortal Pursuit.

The win came via unanimous decision and improved Khan’s overall mixed martial arts record to 9-2. Pang’s record was adjusted to 22-11.

Tiffany Teo, number one ranked ONE Championship strawweight presently, secured a first-round armbar a bit over four minutes into the opening frame.

Puja Tomar registered the tap seemingly milliseconds after announcer Dom Lau uttered aloud “one minute left in the first round”. Tomar’s overall MMA record changed to 3-2 as Teo improves to 7-0.

Mei Yamaguchi defeated Gina Iniong across all three judges’ scorecards in a bout that went the distance. This prizefight served as the main card opener and set it off on a strong note.

This victory netted Yamaguchi another crack at Angela Lee’s ONE Atomweight world championship in her next fight.
