Ferguson (25-4) took a lot of damage in his interim lightweight championship loss to Justin Gaethje (22-2) at UFC 249 last Saturday. The fight was stopped in the fifth round and there is no indication of when exactly Ferguson suffered the injury.

As a result of the injury, Ferguson will miss some time, but his timeline maybe quicker now that he won’t need surgery.

Tony Ferguson had his 12 fight winning streak snapped in the loss to Gaethje. The winning streak was a UFC record within the division. Originally, Ferguson was scheduled to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov on April 18, but the coronavirus pandemic forced Nurmagomedov out of the fight. Gaethje replaced Nurmagomedov and then the fight was pushed back to May 9.
