Akebono placed in medically induced coma after show in Japan

Professional MMA fighter and wrestler Akebono has been placed in a medically induced coma and will remain in one for at least a few more days.

According to reports  the 47-year old Akebono, whose real name is Chad Rowan, was taking part in a wrestling promotion called DDT in  Fukuoaka, South Japan last week when the incident happened.

The 6’8″ more than 480-pound man is most recognizable for his Sumo match opposite The Big Show at Wrestlemania 21, but he has also competed in mixed martial arts.

He has competed against the likes of Royce Gracie, Giant Silva,  and Bob Sapp.
