Amanda Ribas

Amanda Ribas previews her upcoming fight against Katlyn Chookagian

Amanda Ribas has had a hard time getting inside the octagon the last few months.

She was originally scheduled to face Michelle Waterson at the beginning of the year, but the fight got pushed back to May after Waterson suffered an injury. As the year went on and the fight got closer, Waterson would eventually pull out of the fight completely leaving Ribas without an opponent.

After Waterson pulled out of the fight, Ribas didn’t want to want to wait any longer for fight, so when she was presented the opportunity to move up to flyweight and fight Katlyn Chookagian at UFC Vegas 54, she jumped on the opportunity.

Ribas is currently ranked No. 9 in the world at strawweight and Chookagian is currently the No. 2 ranked flyweight contender. While Ribas wouldn’t mind returning to strawweight, she knows that a win would automatically put her in title contention at flyweight and her goal is to one day capture a UFC title.

While Ribas isn’t looking too far ahead of what’s next as she knows she has her hands full with Chookagian, she does know one thing is for certain in the future and that is that the fans can expect to see her in the octagon again a few more times this year as Ribas plans on making up for some lost time earlier this year.

Prior to her fight at UFC Vegas 54, Ribas spoke with MyMMANews about Waterson dropping out of the fight, her matchup with Chookagian, her thoughts on some upcoming fights and her plans for the rest of the year.

You can watch her full interview in the video above.
