Bokang Masunyane: “This is bigger than myself, I’m fighting for Africa”

ONE Championship (ONE) athletes competing this Friday at ONE 156: Eersel vs. Sadikovic answered questions in a series of interviews ahead of their highly anticipated matchups.

One of the athletes on the card, Bokang Masunyane, of Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa, was one of the competitors who spoke with media ahead of the weekend’s event.

The #1-ranked Masunyane returns to face #2-ranked Jarred Brooks in a ONE Strawweight World Title eliminator.

Bokang Masunyane brings a perfect 8-0 record into the contest against his opponent who has two wins with the promotion.

“This is bigger than myself. I’m fighting for Africa, I’m fighting for a lot of fighters in Africa to be recognized,” Masunyane said. “That’s the pressure I feel behind me, my family and friends… I’d like to be the first World Champion coming out of Africa, born and raised in Africa, it’s that time.”

Two spectacular World Title bouts headline the card. ONE Lightweight Kickboxing World Champion Regian Eersel defends his belt and 18-fight win streak against the onslaught of Arian Sadikovic, while young striking sensations Smilla Sundell and Jackie Buntan square off for the inaugural ONE Women’s Strawweight Muay Thai World Championship.

ONE 156 broadcasts live from the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Friday, 22 April.
