Kwon Won Il: “I believe that I deserve the next shot at the title when I beat [Belingon]”
Coming into ONE Championship: Winter Warriors II, Korea’s Kwon Won Il feels he is in line for a title shot and a win makes that even more apparent. He takes on former title holder Kevin Belingon. While Belingon has dropped his last three, it’s been to now-champ Bibiano Fernandes twice and John Lineker. Won Il feels like the time for him is now.
While this is a big fight, especially with what’s on the line for Kwon Won Il, one would assume he’d be under some pressure. But Won Il says he’s feeling none of that and is as comfortable as it gets. “It feels the same every time. I feel so comfortable like I’m at home.”
As mentioned above, Belingon is tough. But at ONE Championship: Winter Warriors II, Won Il knows exactly what’s on the line and believes he’s next to challenge Fernandes for the title.
He says, “Belingon is a very strong and tough fighter. He’s ranked number 2 in the world. Of course I believe that I deserve the next shot at the title when I beat him.”
Kwon Won-Il promising fireworks at ONE Championship: Winter Warriors II
Kwon Won-Il believes that he and Kevin Belingon are going to steal the show at the upcoming event. “I’m going to show exciting and explosive fight. It will be a striking battle,” he says of his upcoming fight with the former champion. With the fight being in the co-main event spot, he think’s it’s a perfect opportunity to shine.
For this fight, Won-Il has been taking training serious. He’s got his personal trainer and he wants to be in tip top form when fight day comes. “I’m working as a personal trainer, teaching people how to workout properly. It’s very difficult to train while working.”
As we talked about earlier in the year, ONE Championship is blazing the way in virtual reality. Putting their fights in VR has been a great thing they’ve offered and it’s something worth checking out. Kwon Won-Il loves the idea of one of his fights being in VR and hopes to check it out! “I would love to watch myself in the VR world. I’m so curious.”
