Mackenzie Dern breaks down her victory over Tecia Torres at UFC 273

Mackenzie Dern and Tecia Torres went into UFC 273 with the mindset that they were in for a hard night out and that’s exactly the way the way things played out.

Prior to the fight, both Torres and Dern spoke with MyMMANews and both felt the fight would be a good battle. Torres felt extremely confident that she’d be the winner when it was all over and she carried her confidence all throughout fight week and into the fight.

At the UFC 273 press conference just days before the fight, Torres and Dern had a back-and-forth verbal exchange because Torres was believed that she was the better fighter and Dern responded to one of Torres answers after feeling like she was being overlooked.

Nonetheless, after multiple media rounds and press conferences, the two went out and put on a great fight.

The opening round was close and ended being the deciding factor.

Rounds two and three were clear cut as Dern had several submission attempts in round two and she felt that she was very close to being the first person to stop Torres on a few occasions in the that round. Meanwhile, round three went to Torres unanimously.

UFC octagon announcer Bruce Buffer would read the judges score cards following the fight and two judges scored round one and the fight in favor of Dern to give her a split decision win and improve her record to 12-2.

Following her win, Dern once again spoke with MyMMANews and she broke down her performance in which she was felt like she won all three rounds.

Aside from breaking down the win, Dern also discussed her exchange with Torres at the press conference, her ideal return date and her thoughts on the upcoming rematch between Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Zhang Weili.

You can watch Dern’s full interview in the video above.
