Maged Hammo on Justin Basra “All about timing on this one”

Hammo appeared on Bowks Talking Bouts to discuss this championship clash. Excerpts from our chat are below.

The initial thoughts when this Basra bout offer came Hammo’s way

“I wasn’t very surprised. I knew this was going to come eventually. Just because of how high-level he is and the way I was coming up and stuff, right? So I figured at the end we’ll meet somewhere.”

“I’ve been working out my stuff already before even this was announced. So I’m ready to go.”

The stylistic proclivities of Justin Basra in Hammo’s estimation

“I think he uses wrestling to his advantage very well. The way he makes you think you’re going for a takedown then comes up on top and stuff like that. It’s very high-level stuff and it makes you think, right? I’m at that point where I’m starting to think of the same ways. So I guess it will be all about timing on this one.”

Basra being inactive for the last four some-odd years and Hammo relating to returning after a lengthy layoff

“Oh, he’ll feel that. He’ll feel that (laughs). I felt it. I was off for three years, I came back, and I felt it…Not underestimating but I know the feeling. So I know what he’s going to feel.”

Representing his skills in a big national MMA promotion in Calgary broadcasted on UFC Fight Pass

“Oh, I love it. Unified has been doing great for me and I appreciate them a lot. Just like Unified is one of the biggest shows in Canada. The fight card itself, it just tells you how good this card is. The best of Canada is fighting on this show on December 2nd. It’s going to be like a night to remember, I swear. I’m super excited to be a part of that and then to actually be the main event to that, that’s a good feeling. It’s a really good feeling. So it’s good. I’m going to bring it, hopefully, he brings it too, and it should be a good show.”
