Michael Chandler

Michael Chandler should fight Tony Ferguson in his first UFC fight

Michael Chandler went through the motions of fight camp, fight week and cutting weight. In the end he wasn’t needed as both Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje made weight and fought in the main event of UFC 254 in which Nurmagomedov won by a second-round submission and retired following the fight.

Now the newly signed Chandler is still looking for an opponent for his highly anticipated UFC debut. The question becomes, who exactly do you book him against?

Obviously the fact that UFC had Chandler as the backup for the UFC 254 main event without fighting anyone on the roster means the promotion thinks highly of the longtime Bellator lightweight champion. So with that being said he’s going to get a top tier opponent.

So let’s break down the division a little bit. Chandler will not fighting Conor McGregor or Dustin Poirier considering they’re fighting in January and I bet that fight will end up being for the now vacant title. You can throw Chandler in there with Gaethje, but since he just fought that might be tough to book those two in the very near future. Of course there’s Dan Hooker and that would be fun, but there’s still a better option out there.

Tony Ferguson.

Ferguson is comeback trail and he wants a taste of UFC gold. The anger that is following through his veins will make his next fight so much fun and I just feel like a Ferguson and Chandler fight would be epic.

A former UFC interim lightweight champion vs a former Bellator champion. Two men that want a UFC title shot. Two men that know they are likely a win away from a championship fight.

Besides for those reasons, talk about a fun fight stylistically. Both guys have no problems standing up and trading shots. Chandler has power in his hands and Ferguson not only has power, but he’s so unorthodox which always makes him fun to watch. Also Chandler is a great wrestler and Ferguson is an absolute savage on the ground and can submit you from anywhere.

Why book the two against anyone else? This fight would be fun and the hardcore MMA fans would be glued to their TV’s for it. Ferguson vs. Chandler. Book it now.
