Breaking down Sergey Lipinets vs. Custio Clayton

Lipinets was originally scheduled to fight Kudratillo Abdukakhorov but Abdukakhorov was forced out due to visa issues. Now facing the Canadian, Clayton, Lipinets takes on a tough opponent who is 18-0 and has 12 knockouts to his name. Clayton has won several Intercontential welterweight titles.

Sergey Lipinets is 16-1 with his lone loss to Mikey Garcia, a fight that went the distance. Lipinets moved up to welterweight from super lightweight and hasn’t looked back. Lipinets has gone 3-0 at welterweight since the Garcia fight, beating Erick Bone, Lamont Peterson, and Jayar Inson, the latter two coming by knockout.

“Custio Clayton is an outstanding replacement opponent given the late change and should provide a stiff test against Sergey Lipinets on October 24th,” said president of TGB Promotions, Tom Brown. “Clayton was already deep into training and will bring a wealth of experience from his amateur days through his impressive pro career, into his showdown with Lipinets. This is a great opportunity for Clayton to announce himself as a welterweight contender against one of the division’s most dangerous fighters.”

Clayton, a former Olympian, is excited for the chance to prove himself. “I’m very happy to have this opportunity.” He continues, “This is exactly the type of fight me and my team have been asking for. My preparation has been very good. This might seem like it’s last-minute, but I am more than ready for whatever Lipinets brings on October 24th.”
