“Tank” Davis KO’s Romero: Ryan Garcia want’s next

WBA world lightweight champion, Gervonta “Tank” Davis, and interim WBA lightweight champion, Rolando Romero, battled it out last night in Brooklyn, New York.

After a solid start for the 26-year-old challenger, Davis began to take over the show as the bout entered the 4th and 5th rounds.

As the 6th round came around, Davis landed a firm counter left that put Romero flying into the ropes, putting a stop to the bout.

Following Davis’ fourth straight title defense and 27th straight victory, fellow lightweight star Ryan Garcia took to Twitter to call out the champion.

Garcia (22-0-0, 18 KOs) is coming off of a unanimous decision victory over Emmanuel Tagoe last month. Following the bout, Garcia announced that his next fight will come in July, so a December matchup with Davis would make a lot of sense, provided Garcia is victorious in his next bout.

Davis (27-0-0, 25 KOs), on the other hand, may not be looking to make another title defense but rather he may look to unify the lightweight belts.

Just next week, the anticipated WBA (super), WBO, Ring, WBC, and IBF unification bout between George Kambosos Jr. and Devin Haney is set to take place, and it’s possible that Davis will call for the winner of that bout.

Whatever is next for Garcia and Davis, the lightweight division is one of the most entertaining divisions in the sport of boxing right now. With so many great matchups to make, we can’t wait to see how it all shakes out.

Who do you want to see next for Davis following his massive win last night? Do you think Garcia deserves a crack at the WBA title?
