Bobby Houston is set to headline his first mixed martial arts event this weekend, and he’ll get to fight for a title when he faces Tywan Stills at light heavyweight for Made Men Promotions.

“It happened a little faster than I thought it was gonna happen,” Houston said. “I actually started fighting MMA in 2017, that was my first fight. I joined the army shortly after I lost my third fight.”

Houston spent four years in the US Army, where he operated the 14E Patriot Missile System. He comes from a military family, as both his dad and grandfather both served in the Marines.

Houston trains at Campbell Martial Arts, and his veteran teammate Sean Dinan will also be on the card.

Houston knows that he has a tough matchup in Stills, who holds a 5-5 record but has won four of his last six. He’s ranked as the No. 8 amateur middleweight in Ohio according to Tapology.

Houston picked up a first-round submission in his return to fighting at Yankee Lake Brawlroom 58 in September, and his only loss was against Trenton Zdarko who is now 3-1 as a pro.

“I’m 3-1, there’s really no more picking and choosing fights,” Houston said of the tough matchup. “I gotta fight whoever they give me.”

The event takes place in a unique location, as the massive Penguin City Brewery will host the fights. Check out the full video interview with Bobby Houston above.
