Fundraiser for Maria Favela approaches $50,000 raised, will help fund chemotherapy treatment
Maria Favela is a professional mixed martial arts fighter who was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma earlier this year.
The cancer attacks the immune system and costs tens of thousands of dollars to treat. UFC fighter Cynthia Calvillo set up a GoFundMe fundraiser that spread like wildfire as countless MMA fighters, managers, and fans have pitched in to help.
The GoFundMe is now nearly $50,000 and has allowed Favela the chance to pay for the necessary chemotherapy.
Favela writes, “Hello, my name is María José García Favela, I am a professional mixed martial arts fighter and now I have the toughest fight of my life and it is against lymphatic cancer. I have dedicated my whole life to sports and I never prepared myself for this financially or mentally. Fighting this disease has been very expensive and my family and I cannot cover the costs. My life depends on it and I am asking for your support to be able to win this fight for my life. I need all the help I can get to be able to come out with my hand raised. ✊❤️
