Kris Gratalo vs Hugh McKenna, Maverick 12

Maverick 12 weigh-in results – Gratalo vs McKenna

Maverick MMA held weigh-ins tonight from Blue Tequila at the Days Inn in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, in anticipation of tomorrow night’s Maverick 12 fight card which will be held at the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg.

The main event features a pair of middleweights as Kris “Badger” Gratalo of Gracie New Jersey looks to secure another Maverick MMA win as he takes on Hugh McKenna.  Both fighters made weight for the headlining bout after Gratalo was given an extra hour to cut 0.2 pounds.

A co-main event between Paul Sims and Jerome Mickle was scrapped after Mickle failed to appear for weigh-ins.  Fight promoter Willy Sisca said that Mickle told him he was not coming as he was more than eight pounds overweight.  This is the second fight that fell apart for Sims in just one-month’s time, and for the same reason.  Last month Sharif Jones failed to appear for Art of War Cage Fighting 10 weigh-ins in Philadelphia.

As a result of the above cancellation, Andrew Chirico and Stephen Moleski were bumped up to the slot.  Both fighters made weight for the 160-pound catchweight bout.

American Top Team’s Gabriel Barletta had to shed a few extra ounces to make his 156-pound limit for a contracted lightweight bout with New York’s Andy Jimenez.

Two amateurs weighed in for the one and only amateur bout on the card.  Tyler Tangelder and Ibrahim Kallie received the green light but will be checked again tomorrow by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission.

A second pro fight was cancelled as a result of a late commission error.  Jovany (Geo) Alvarez, who is approaching 41-years of age, was to make his pro debut against Danny Maldonado.

Alvarez had fought for Maverick as an amateur last year (still at the 40-year mark) and was granted permission by the commission to compete at that time.  Just hours before weigh-ins the commission realized that Alvarez was at the age where they required additional medical testing to be conducted.  Alvarez, traveling from New York, was given just hours to undergo testing and receive the results, as well as travel to the venue in Pennsylvania.  He was able to complete several of the tests but the physicians told him the results would not be ready in the time that the commission was requiring them.  As a result, the fight was removed from the card.  Maldonado did weigh-in successfully at 124.5 pounds for the fight.

Maverick 12 will proceed with three pro bouts and one amateur bout.
