Miranda Maverick reveals she went ‘completely blind throughout the 3rd round’ of UFC 289 loss to Jasmine Jasudavicius

Miranda Maverick went through some adversity during her UFC 289 loss to Jasmine Jasudavicius.

Maverick was taking on the Canadian Jasudavicius on the prelims of UFC 289 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It was an opponent Maverick called out and in the first round, she had a ton of success.

Yet, in the second and third rounds, Jasudavicius began taking over with her striking and wrestling and when her final bell rang, it was Jasudavicius pulling off the upset as she got the decision win. The loss was disappointing for Maverick who was ranked 15th and after the loss, she took to Instagram to reveal she went blind during the third round.

“Some things are scarier than fighting- and one of those things is going blind. My left eye went blurry end of 2nd round and was completely blind throughout the 3rd round. Its mostly back now and I’ll be meeting with a retina specialist this coming week. But I’ll admit I was scared during that time. Still, I firmly believe in taking ownership and responsibility for my ups and downs. It wasn’t my night. Jasmine did great in there and capitalized on my hesitations and poor shots today. Congratulations and all respect to her 🙏🏼. Sorry to all those I disappointed and thank you to those who don’t let 15 minutes of my life represent who I am. I’ll be back. Canada, Vancouver is a beautiful city and I’m happy to have met the UFC crowd out here!.” Maverick wrote on Instagram.

With the loss, Miranda Maverick fell to 11-5 as a pro and is now 4-3 in the UFC and 2-3 in her last five. Prior to the loss to Jasmine Jasudavicius at UFC 289, she beat Shanna Young by decision and Sabina Mazo by submission. The win over Mazo snapped her two-fight losing skid as she lost to Erin Blanchfield and Maycee Barber. To start her UFC career, she beat Gillian Robertson and Liana Jojua.
