MMA fighter, Devin McNulty, pleads guilty in role of Jan. 6. Capitol riot
Devin McNulty, a 27-year-old amateur mixed martial artist from Tennessee, pleaded guilty to assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers, as part of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riots.
On that date, the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., was attacked by a mob of supporters of then-U.S. president Donald Trump, two months after his defeat in the 2020 presidential election.
The FBI first learned about McNulty through an anonymous tip, according to court documents. Agents were able to identify him by comparing photos and videos from the Capitol to a poster advertising a Knoxville mixed-martial arts fight McNulty competed in.
According to a report from bnnbreaking.com, “cell phone data placed him (McNulty) in Knoxville before tracking his movement to Washington D.C., while Snapchat videos showcased his presence at various locations around the Capitol. These pieces of evidence painted a comprehensive picture of McNulty’s participation in the events of January 6.”
He was arrested in Atlanta, Georgia on June 13, 2023.
A hearing for sentencing is scheduled for June 28.
