Russ Korbul has battled his whole life, looking for 3-0 at ROC 79
Video interview with Russ Korbul above
“The Korbulizer” Russ Korbul has battled his way through adversity his whole life. Korbul has never used it as an excuse and was shocked that I even knew that he was previously diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome. Today, they call it Autism Spectrum Disorder. The 34-year-old professional fighter has never let it defeat him.
“Just get with it”
As he grew up, many people thought he should “just get with it.” Well, the world has thankfully changed since then. Special Education awareness is growing every year and many children are getting the assistance they need. Korbul wasn’t so fortunate, yet here he is…a professional MMA cage fighter. Russ isn’t here just to say he was able to become a fighter. He has bigger goals and who is to say that he can’t reach them?
“Hey Mickey you’re so fine”
His head coach and mentor at Gracie NJ Academy in Lebanon, NJ is UFC veteran Mickey Gall. Gall calls Korbul super human and says once he gets his hands on you, it’s very difficult to escape. That determination is not coached. It has been built through 34 years of daily grinding to just live a normal life, let alone that of a fighter.
Speaking of fights
On March 3rd, The Korbulizer (2-0) will make his third professional walk to the cage in Atlantic City, NJ in the Showroom at the Tropicana Casino and Hotel Resort. Louis Neglia Jr and Dead Serious Promotions will be hosting Ring of Combat 79 where Korbul will take on David Meshkhoradze (2-2). We asked Russ if we could expect the same results from his first two matchups. He says…
“Yes, I’m going to beat this guy up. I don’t want to sound cocky or nothing. We prepare for everything because you never know how a fight can go. I work as hard as I can, try to stay as positive as I can. I try to do everything as best and right as possible. My coaches Mickey and Justin get me in the right place. I assume this guy knows who I am, and he has a plan for me, too.”
Please check out our interview on the link above. Russ is a super person and very humble.
