Ryan Garcia vs. Javier Fortuna set for July 16th

Ryan Garcia has his next fight set

Ryan Garcia’s next opponent has finally been announced. That opponent will be former two-time world champion, Javier Fortuna.

Earlier this month, Garcia announced that he would be returning in July and told fans “you guys are gonna love this one, it’s hype, got everything to it.” Following the announcement, boxing fans around the world speculated as to who it would be. The front runner seemed to be Issac Cruz, however, we now know that it will be Fortuna.

DAZN announced the bout via Twitter.

“King Ry” Garcia (22-0-0, 18 KOs) has taken the boxing world by storm over the last few years. At just 23-years-old, he has defeated the likes of Francisco Fonseca, Luke Campbell, and Emmanuel Tagoe on his way to his current ranking of #5 in the Ring, #2 in WBC, and #9 in IBF.

As Garcia eyes a title bout by the end of the year, he will first have to get through Fortuna.

“El Abejon” Fortuna (37-3-1, 26 KOs) is the former WBA super featherweight champion and the former WBA interim featherweight world champion. At 33-years-old, Fortuna has defeated the likes of Sharif Bogere, Antonio Lozada, and Jesus Marcelo Andres Cuellar. In his most recent outing, he scored a first-round knockout over Rafael Hernandez. According to Box Live rankings, at lightweight, Fortuna is ranked at #9 in the Ring and #9 in the WBC.

Expected to take place in Los Angeles, California, the bout will stream exclusively on DAZN.
