Bellator 284 Gracie vs Yamauchi Results

Bellator 284 went down in Sioux Falls, S.D Friday night, and this card was one for the hardcore fans of mixed martial arts. The main event had two grapplers facing off in Neiman Gracie vs Goiti Yamauchi along with a couple of heavyweight fights on the main card, and a middleweight match-up that could shake up the rankings.

The co-main event between Valentin Moldavsky and Steve Mowry ended in a lackluster fashion but the middleweight match-up between Austin Vanderford and Aaron Jeffery will likely propel Jeffery to the top of the rankings.

Either way, if you missed Bellator 284 on Friday night MyMMANews has the prelims stream above. Check out the complete main card breakdown and results below:

Austin Vanderford vs. Aaron Jeffery

Staying ready counts for a lot and Jeffery was ready when he faced off against Vanderford on short notice. It took the former CFFC champ only 85 seconds to get a win that will likely see him hit the rankings after the event.

#9-Said Sowma vs. #10-Gokhan Saricam

These heavyweights went the distance for all three rounds. Both men seemed to not over commit to anything but when it came to controlling the action, Saricam seemed to do enough to convince two of the three judges to give him the victory.

#4-Ilima-Lei Macfarlane vs. Bruna Ellen

Macfarlane had to deal with the bad press of not making weight but that still doesn’t take away from the fact that she is a former champion and will fight as such. Still, Ellen did not relent in her effort to beat a former champion with the third round having Ellen slapped on a very tight guillotine that Macfarlane exercised patience to get out of. All heart from Macfarlane had her do enough to win a split decision victory.

#1-Valentin Moldavsky vs. #5-Steve Mowry

An unfortunate turn of events in the co-main event was an eye poke at the beginning of round one from Moldavsky to Mowry would have the fight called off when the doctor looked at Mowry’s eye. Credit to Moldavsky as well for recognizing the poke and backing off during the fight. Due to the accidental nature of how things turned out, the bout was deemed a “no-contest.”

#5-Neiman Gracie vs. Goiti Yamauchi

Oddly enough, or may not so odd as it makes the most sense to test the unknown grounds of striking for the two high-level grapplers. It seemed apparent in round one that, that would be the plan for both men. However, even with Gracie’s reach advantage, Yamauchi’s experience in MMA would show to be just a little bit better as he dropped Gracie in round 1. Yamauchi would follow Gracie down and that allowed Gracie to get back to his feet and complete the round.

Round 2 had Gracie go down a few times as Yamauchi seemed to be better when standing. It seemed as if Gracie was doing it to bait Yamauchi to the ground but he was still taking damage when striking exchanged led him there. It would be one strike too many as Yamauchi would land an uppercut that would put Gracie down for good and pick up the win.
