Ben Rothwell defeats Ovince St. Preux in heavyweight war

Ben Rothwell vs. Philipe Lins re-booked for upcoming UFC Fight Night card

A heavyweight bout between Ben Rothwell and Philipe Lins that was recently scratched has been re-booked for a UFC Fight Night card in May.

Rothwell and Lins were supposed to fight at UFC Vegas 21: Edwards vs. Muhammad last Saturday in Las Vegas, but the fight was scratched during fight week. The good news is that the UFC has been able to re-book this fight in fairly short order, as the promotion plans on having the heavyweights meet at a UFC Fight Night card set for May 8. That event has no location or venue confirmed for it yet. The event was originally set to be headlined by Julianna Pena and Holly Holm, but that fight fell apart when Holm pulled out, so the card currently does not have a main event. MMAjunkie.com first reported the Rothwell vs. Lins re-booking.

Rothwell (38-13) most recently lost a unanimous decision to Marcin Tybura, but before that, he had won two straight bouts over Stefan Struve and Ovince Saint Preux. Rothwell is 39 years old and has been around the game forever, but he remains a tough out for anyone at heavyweight. He’s nearly impossible to knock out and he has the power to knock his opponents out, plus the submissions to choke them out. When you think about the most underrated heavyweights in MMA history, you have to put a guy like Rothwell at the top of the list.

Lins (14-5) is coming off of back-to-back losses to Andrei Arlovski and Tanner Boser in his first two UFC appearances. Considering he was a former PFL heavyweight champion and million-dollar winner, he has been disappointing so far in the Octagon. With the UFC looking to shed fighters from its roster and with Lins and Rothwell coming off of a loss, it will be very important for both fighters to go out there and get their hand raised.

Who do you think wins this heavyweight bout between Ben Rothwell and Philipe Lins?
