Catching up during quarantine with Blaine “The Shuttdown” Shutt
While the world is riding out living in quarantine, awaiting for the riddance of Covid-19, Blaine “The Shuttdown” Shutt has been engulfed in his most wild chapter of his life, to date. “It’s super confusing. Everyday is a different adventure,” the inaugural CES flyweight champion, Shutt says about life during Quarantine.
Shutt was flying high on cloud 9 after his life’s work culminated in one night of success where he was declared the “CES Flyweight world champion.” His next fight was scheduled (for 4/20/20) against Richie Santiago at CES 61 where he where he would’ve defended his belt. Life was coming together for the flyweight champ. Unfortunately, the worldwide pandemic had other plans.
Currently, Shutt is living “day by day.” Patiently awaiting to see when his next shift will come, and more importantly when his next fight will come. While getting to enjoy the luxuries of fatherhood.
“I’m fortunate enough to be a partial important employee!” Shutt said. Continuing with “but my hours are like, day by day. So, like everyday I’m waiting for a phone call if I’m going to work or I’m not going to work. And if I do end up working, I’m only getting like 4 hours,” Shutt says. “It’s really become just a punishment game at the moment.“ he emphasizes about the nationwide restrictions.
Shutt has had the privilege to have spent his last three training camps at AKA (American Kickboxing Academy). He has gotten the opportunity to share the training room with many world class fighters such as the UFC welterweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, amongst others. “There’s so many people I go with!” Shutt says. With the talent level that AKA brings to the table, immense growth was inevitable. Finally, the flyweight found his stride in his MMA career where “It all finally clicked!” Which he says is the “best feeling in the world!”
