Damon Jackson vs Darrick Minner booked for UFC Vegas 56

We’ve got a great night of fights kicking off UFC’s June schedule, where former Bellator & M-1 Global heavyweight champion Alexander Volkov faces former multi-time kickboxing world champion Jairzinho Rozenstruik in the main event of the evening at UFC Vegas 56.

UFC Vegas 56 is to go down live from the Apex Center in Enterprise, Nevada on June 4, 2022.

A very interesting featherweight matchup between Damon Jackson and Darrick Minner has also been scheduled for this event, both of which are quite superb grapplers, and both of which are straight up finishers.

Damon Jackson came to the UFC back in 2014, going 0-1-1-1 in his initial stint with the promotion. He’d then go 8-2 over his next ten bouts, fighting for the likes of LFA & PFL, before returning to the big show.

Since returning, Jackson has gone 3-1, only losing to a true prodigy in Ilia Topuria (KO) and defeating the likes of Mirsad Bektic (guillotine choke), Charles Rosa (UD), and Kamuela Kirk (arm-triangle choke).

Darrick Minner on the other hand came to the UFC in 2020, the same year Jackson returned, to face Grant Dawson.

This was a bout that was nearly put together on the regional scene a number of times, so the UFC took the initiative to finally match these two up.

Following that defeat, where he was submitted (rear naked choke) in the second round, Minner has gone 2-2, defeating the likes of TJ Laramie (guillotine choke) and Charles Rosa (UD), and losing to Darren Elkins (TKO) and Ryan Hall (UD) over his latest two appearances.

Minner is the definition of a sprinter. He’s incredibly dangerous in the first round, but he generally begins to fade as the fight goes on. Of his 26 wins, 23 come via finish (22 submission, 1 knockout), and only two of those finishes went past the first round, meaning he has 21 first round finishes in 26 career victories.

Of Jackson’s 20 wins, 18 come via finish (3 knockout, 15 submission), though nine of his finishes come in the second round. He also submitted Bektic in round three after being absolutely dominated throughout the first two rounds.

He has the ability to wrap submissions up at any given point in the fight, and where he has better endurance, Minner is presumably better on the feet with his heavy-handed boxing.

Who do you see walking out of this fight the victor?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
