Dominick Reyes out, Carlos Ulberg to face Alonzo Menifield at UFC Atlantic City

There’s been a slight change to UFC Atlantic City or UFC Fight Night 241, as no. 14 ranked former light-heavyweight title challenger Dominick Reyes (12-4) has withdrawn from his upcoming clash with Carlos Ulberg (9-1) at this event.

The two were originally slated to fight this past weekend at UFC 297. However, Ulberg was forced from the bout with an injury and the bout was rescheduled for UFC FN 241.

In turn, Reyes was recently pulled from the contest for undisclosed reasons and has since been replaced by no. 12 ranked Alonzo Menifield (15-3-1).

UFC FN 241 is to go down on March 30, 2024, live from the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

This is perhaps a more fitting, more intriguing matchup for some; Reyes went into his 2020 title fight with Jon Jones with a perfect 12-0 record, and though most believed he did enough to walk away from the bout as an undefeated champion, he would lose the bout via unanimous decision.

Since then, Reyes has been knocked out in three-straight fights against former UFC light-heavyweight champions Jan Blachowicz and Jiri Prochazka, as well as no. 11 ranked Ryan Spann.

19-2 professional kickboxing champion Carlos Ulberg on the other hand was going into that contest on a five-fight win streak showcasing four-straight finishes with wins over the likes Fabio Cherant (UD), Tafon Nchukwi (TKO), Nicolae Negumereanu (KO), Ihor Potieria (TKO), and most recently Da-Un Jung (rear naked choke) this past September where he picked up the very first submission victory of his MMA career.

Alonzo Menifield, like Ulberg, will be going into this fight on a win streak, himself having gone unbeaten in his last five fights as well with victories over Askar Mozharov (TKO), Misha Cirkunov (KO), Jimmy Crute (battled to a draw in first fight, submitted Crute with guillotine choke in rematch), and former professional kickboxer Dustin Jacoby (UD).

Many of us were looking forward to Reyes vs Ulberg, but at least Ulberg will still have a chance to climb into the top 15 rankings with a win this March.

Of Ulberg’s nine career wins seven come via finish with six knockouts and one submission, while of Menifield’s 15 career wins 10 come via knockout with three submissions.

Who walks away from this new light-heavyweight booking with their hand raised come UFC Atlantic City?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
