Donald Cerrone ‘begging’ for Tony Ferguson rematch

At UFC 238, a very interesting lightweight bout between Donald Cerrone and Tony Ferguson took place. The two only had a few weeks notice for the fight, but it was a fight many fans were looking forward to. And, for two rounds it delivered. The two had a fan-friendly fight, but as the third round was about to start, “Cowboy” blew his nose which shut his eye. That, resulted in the doctor to stop the fight.

Since the fight, Donald Cerrone has admitted it was a rookie mistake, but the veteran of the sport wants to run it back against Ferguson.

“Tony Ferguson rematch, I’m begging for it,” Cerrone said to MMA Junkie.  “August, hopefully no later than September. I can’t fight any later than September, because now I’m running into not being able to get two more at the end of the year.”

Not only is he begging for it, but “Cowboy’ says the UFC has interest in re-booking the fight. Given, Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Dustin Poirier title fight happens in September, they could do that fight just a week or so before to the winner then get the next title shot. And, even Dana White right after the fight expressed interest in the rematch.

However, there is no question Tony Ferguson deserves to fight for the title next. He is on an insane winning streak and has beaten almost everyone there is at lightweight, besides the champ. The Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson is a fight many fans want to see and should happen following UFC 242 barring the Russian wins. But, if Donald Cerrone is to be believed he says the UFC is open to the rematch so that could very well happen next.

It would no doubt be another great fight that could headline a fight night card or add to a UFC pay-per-view.
