Former MMA fighter, Aftab Miah, jailed for 21 months after attack

Aftab Miah, 37, has been sentenced to 21 months in jail after an unprovoked attack outside Libation bar in Hove, East Sussex, England.

The single-punch attack, which took place on May 21, left Kit Bruce, 24, Miah’s victim, with a brain hemorrhage and fractured skull.

According to a report from Daily Mail, the altercation began across the street at Pascal’s Bistro Bar around 11 p.m. local time.

Miah “was seen punching the victim in the face before both men and their groups of friends were told to leave the premises. Mr Bruce and his group of friends went to another bar across the road, and Miah decided to leave the area.”

Following the initial confrontation, “Bruce was walking along the street when Miah jumped out of the passenger seat of a car which had pulled up alongside him and launched into an attack.”

CCTV footage captured the attack before Miah got back into the vehicle and sped from the scene. According to Brighton and Hove News, Bruce was sedated for two days and has been left with problems with his hearing and balance.

Miah was arrested by Sussex Police the following day after being identified by witnesses and later jailed for 21 months at Lewes Crown Court last month after pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm without intent.

He was also ordered to pay a £190 victim surcharge.

Miah has three MMA bouts to his credit, one amateur and two professional, all three were losses.

Detective Police Constable James Botting described the incident as ‘callous and unprovoked.’

Pascal’s Bistro Bar had it’s alcohol license revoked one month after the incident following a council licensing panel deciding to revoke the license after hearing ‘overwhelming’ evidence about problems on the premises.
