Giga Chikadze moves to 5-0 in the UFC with vicious 1st round finish at UFC Fight Night Santos vs Glover

The UFC has been on an absolute tear with shows taking place week after week. Tonight, Saturday, November 7th, proves to be no different. Live from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, NV. Two contenders collide at UFC Fight Night: Santos vs. Teixeira. Light heavyweight title contenders Thiago Santos and Glover Texeira face off in the main event of the evening. With the co-main event of the evening featuring longtime UFC veteran and former champion, Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski taking on hard-hitting Tanner “The Bulldozer” Boser.

In a preliminary bout, featherweights Giga Chikadze (11-2) battles UFC newcomer Jamey “the Afro Samurai”  Simmons (7-2).  Chikadze, from the Republic of Georgia has won all 4 of his UFC bouts by decision.  Simmons is making his debut in the UFC and is coming in off of 3  straight victories by stoppage.  This is how the fight went down…

Round 1

Chikadze has a strong kickboxing pedigree and is a big favorite. He has 38 wins as a professional kickboxer. Simmons has been fighting for 4 years and is coming off of a collegiate wrestling career.

Simmons looks for the clinch and Chikadze does a nice job keeping the distance. Neither guy is really committing 90 seconds in. Simmons again looking for the clinch and has Chikadze pushed back against the cage. They finally separate and we have two minutes left in the round. Simmons throws an overhand right followed by a single leg that is unsuccessful. Neither fighter has really committed , yet.  Chikadze lands a body kick that makes Simmons wince and then follows it up with a vicious left kick to the head that ends this fight abruptly.
