Jalin Turner stops Jamie Mullarkey in back-and-forth war at UFC 272

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, March 5, 2022, for UFC 272, going down at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, live on pay-per-view.

Headlining the event is a truly epic non-title bout between two of the best welterweights on the planet, best friends turned bitter rivals, Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal.

Co-headlining the event is a catchweight (160 lbs) bout between former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos and Renato Moicano.

Dos Anjos was initially slated against Rafael Fiziev tonight, however, Fiziev withdrew from the bout via injury about a week ago and was replaced by a rising prospect in Moicano.

Headlining the prelims tonight was a lightweight contest between rising prospects Jalin Turner and Jamie Mullarkey.

Both men come into the bout a two-fight win streaks, Turner securing back-to-back rear naked chokes, and Mullarkey securing back-to-back knockouts. Don’t get it mixed though, Turner is a striker first, and Mullarkey boasts a black belt in BJJ.

Official Result: Jalin Turner def. Jamie Mullarkey via TKO (punches) at :46 of round two

Mullarkey comes out swinging heavy leather, while Turner is beginning to pick him apart early. Turner’s striking is so slick and crisp, but he’s also eating a lot of hard shots from Mullarkey.

Turner then hurts Mullarkey with a nasty knee to the body that immediately backs him up. He follows up with some kicks to the body and then some punches upstairs, but Mullarkey is able to recover and eventually secures a takedown right into side control.

Mullarkey remains on top for the rest of the round, though he allows Turner to recover guard and doesn’t do much on top.

Turner comes out and lands some more knees to the body of Mullarkey as he was coming in, and that was the beginning of the end.

Jalin Turner just finished Jamie Mullarkey inside of six minutes. What an absolute war that was!

Both men looked great tonight, both men put up a real fight. It was a true pleasure to watch.

If you missed this one, be sure to go back and watch it!

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
