Khabib Nurmagomedov purchases Gorilla Fighting Championships for $1 million

Khabib Nurmagomedov has just recently retired from MMA, and although there are still talks of a possible return, “The Eagle” himself seems pretty set in his ways. Nurmagomedov has recently made a purchase that will allow him to stay in the fight game without actually having to fight himself. According to Russian MMA reporter Azamat Bostanov, Nurmagomedov has purchased Gorilla Fighting Championships (GFC) for a price of 1 million dollars.

“According to my information, Khabib Nurmagomedov bought the GFC (Gorilla Fighting Championship) promotion,” Bostanov wrote on Instagram (translated by Google.) “The transaction amount is estimated at $ 1 million. The new promotion will be called EFC (Eagle Fighting Championship). The organization will change the format – tournaments will be held not only in Russia and the CIS countries but also in the countries of the Arab world, as well as, possibly, in the USA. The deal will be officially announced on December 2 at a press conference by Khabib Nurmagomedov.”

This is big news for the former lightweight champion. Retiring at 29-0 left a big question by fans and also Dana White on whether he would be back to even up his record at 30-0. White has stated time and time again that he thinks Nurmagoedov will fight again, and every time, Nurmagomedov denies the allegations.

Just last week Nurmagomedov wrote on his social media that he would be speaking with White soon and that sent the rumors flying again. Perhaps the talk was from one fight promotion boss to another now that Nurmagomedov is in White’s shoes on a smaller scale. An interesting note is that Nurmagomedov plans to bring his new “Eagle Fighting Championships” to the U.S.

Gorilla Fighting Championship is based in Dagestan Russia, the home of Nurmagomedov. The most recent event of this year was held in October and are planning on two more before the end of 2020. A few of his training partners have fought for GFC themselves.
