EFC 93

Major Changes to EFC 93 Card

Following the dramatic events that took place at EFC 92, Africa’s biggest fight promotion makes its return with EFC 93. Whereas EFC 92 crowned a new middleweight champion, EFC 93 will look to crown a new welterweight champion. The EFC’s welterweight division has been without a champion for a while now. One of the fights on the EFC 93 card that had a lot of attention on it was the clash between Jaco du Plessis and Tresor Boluwa. In training for this fight, du Plessis suffered a concussion injury and was forced out of the fight. Boluwa did not accept any of the replacement options given to him and, as such, is also not going to be a part of the event. Another main card match-up was going to also get a major change.

The highly-anticipated Sholto Luiters vs. Ivan Strydom fight also found itself in jeopardy when Strydom was forced off the card due to taking ill. That fight ultimately got cancelled. Still, Luiters was expected to fight and a few replacement options were explored but all fell through, leaving the event without a heavyweight bout. Several prelim bouts were moved up to the main card, and this has seen the final fight card change to being a 10-fight event. Where Vince Bembe and Trezeguet Kanyinda close out the prelim card, Robert Simbowe and Boule Godogo serve as the curtain-raiser of the main card. The rest of the card has remained intact.
