MVP Says He’s Got Work to do After UFC 299 Win

Michael Page said during the UFC 299 press conference “The UFC has a new MVP,” letting fans unfamiliar with him know what Michael “Venom” Page (MVP) brings to the table. With the body of his MMA work being in Bellator MMA, UFC fans may not have known what to expect and apparently, neither did Page.

While he did win his fight against Holland at UFC 299 by unanimous decision, the second round showed where Page needs to work and he admitted as much during his post-fight interview with ESPN

“I’ve done this a million times,” Page said to Megan Olivi when asked about nervousness. “Being here just felt like one million and one. That side of it was absolutely fine but when I got in there, I didn’t feel quite like myself.”

While the official result came as a unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28), Holland was able to take down Page in round two, and even UFC President Dana White said in the post-event press conference, that he thought that was enough for Holland to take the second round. Page was able to get back up and even defend a submission attempt from Holland, but even when winning there are always things that can be improved upon and Page seemed to walk away with that after the fight.

When asked about potential next opponents, Page admitted as much. “I’ve still got a bit of work to do, I’m not unscathed.” He added that he would discuss what’s next with his team and management.

Prior to the bout with Holland, Page was looking ahead to a potential fight with current Welterweight Champion, Leon Edwards. However, after getting through his first UFC fight week, while he did have some fun, he knows he will have to work on his craft a little more now that he’s in the UFC.

One thing is for sure, Page knows how to work a crowd and with an already established fanbase from his Bellator run, the UFC and MVP in business together should be promising.
