Nate Diaz

Nate Diaz “brings something to the table” for Kamaru Usman, says Ali Abdelaziz

Ali Abdelaziz said Nate Diaz “brings something to the table” when discussing the next opponent for UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.

Usman knocked out Jorge Masvidal in their rematch at UFC 261 in April and he seems poised to fight No. 1 contender Colby Covington in his next title defense. UFC president Dana White has already confirmed that Covington is next in line for Usman, but so far, the fight hasn’t been made official. In fact, Usman’s manager Abdelaziz isn’t so sure that Covington even deserves a title shot, and that’s why he is bringing up other names such as Diaz to potentially be Usman’s next opponent instead.

Speaking to TMZ Sports, Abdelaziz explained why the Usman camp is interested in Diaz more than Covington. As far as Abdelaziz goes, at least Diaz brings the name value of a Diaz brother and the excitement that comes with it to the table. As far as Abdelaziz goes, Covington doesn’t have much to go on considering Usman already knocked him out back at UFC 245 in their first fight at December 2019.

“Yeah, of course (Diaz is an option). At least Nate brings something to the table. The only thing Colby brings to the table is a broken jaw. Humiliated. Like how are you going to promote the fight? Getting his jaw broken, and running out of the Octagon like a little you-know-what? In reality, none of these guys deserve it,” Abdelaziz said.

“Hey, Masvidal didn’t deserve it too. But Masvidal, he brought something to the table. He brought entertainment, he brought excitement. People believed Masvidal was one of the baddest dudes on the planet, right? But the reality is he was not. He got beat at his own game, knocked out cold, slept. He was slept, this is a fact. No disrespect to nobody. He went out there, put on a show for the fans, talked the talk, and guess what? There is only one king (Usman).”

Do you think Nate Diaz should fight Kamaru Usman next for the UFC welterweight title?
