Slap Fighting, led by Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta, being discussed with Nevada Athletic Commission

Rumors have been circulating for months, but it appears as if professional Slap Fighting may be coming to the state of Nevada, according to a report today from MMA Junkie.  What makes the announcement that much more exciting is that the registered LLC is managed by UFC president Dana White and former UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta.

According to an October monthly meeting agenda recently distributed to the MMA Junkie website, by the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC), a discussion will take place Wednesday to determine if “such contests or exhibitions qualify as unarmed combat … and thus fall under the jurisdiction of the Nevada Athletic commission,” as defined by the law.

I personally first heard of UFC President Dana White having interest in a new slap fighting promotion by Knuckle Up podcast host Shawn Ulrich roughly two months ago, but at the time, nothing was concrete.  Apparently, his sources were correct.

MMA Junkie’s report states that “Schiaffo LLC is the name of the business that brought the matter before the commission. According to Nevada business license search SilverFlume, White and Fertitta, as well as UFC chief operating officer Lawrence Epstein and ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ producer Craig Piligian are listed as the LLC’s managers.”

On October 2, White went to social media to recruit talent for the potential slap fighting promotion, calling on those with experience, and even those without.

Rules have yet to be officially announced but slap fighting contests have consisted of two competitors standing within an arm’s reach of the other. The two combatants take turns winding up and striking their opponent in the face with an open hand. Spotters back the two slappers in case one loses consciousness.
