South Africa’s Cameron Saaiman Gets UFC Contract

Dana White’s Contender Series Season 6 continues to roll on and the intensity was at an all-time high last night for episode 5, which also marked the halfway of this season.

The African continent waited in anticipation as EFC Bantamweight Champion, Cameron ‘MSP’ Saaiman, would also be in contention for a UFC contract and he managed to get a vicious third round left hook that earned him praise from many in the global MMA community, as well as that highly-sought after UFC contract.

Saaiman began his amateur career in 2015 and had an undefeated streak which he carried into EFC upon his professional debut. Following a four-fight winning streak in the promotion, he challenged for the promotion’s Bantamweight Championship, which was wrapped around Sindile Manengela’s waist – and he was successful in that endeavour.

With Saaiman adorned with the 135lbs gold, the call from the UFC soon followed and ‘MSP’ answered. Having been invited to compete at the Contender Series, many awaited the fate of the young champion and he has fulfilled his dream. Saaiman follows in the footsteps of fellow UFC contender and Team CIT teammate, Dricus du Plessis.

With Saaiman now being contracted to the UFC, this allows EFC’s recently-crowned interim Bantamweight champion Nicholas Hwende to move into the undisputed Bantamweight champion position.

The EFC has also expressed delight in their champion’s new trajectory in his MMA journey.

It remains to be seen when Saaiman’s first fight for the UFC as a contracted athlete will take place but many fight fans await his promotional debut in anticipation.
