Preview Of Procházka vs. Pereira Main Event
Headed into this bout, we have Procházka, who was the light heavyweight champion after defeating one of Pereira’s closest friends, Glover Teixeira. However, Procházka suffered a shoulder injury and never defended the title. He was out for over a year and vacated his title (Jamahal Hill also had to vacate the light-heavyweight title after beating Teixeira due to an Achilles injury). Pereira will be a tough task for Procházka, who hasn’t fought since last June. He had some excellent wins over Sean Strickland and Israel Adesanya. Three months ago, Pereira snuck away with a split-decision win over former 205-pound champion Jan Blachowicz.
Procházka is 29-3-1 in his career. Of his 29 wins, 25 are knockouts, including his finish in 2021 over Dominick Reyes with a spinning back elbow.
Pereira made his UFC debut in 2021 and has been a wrecking ball since. After beating Adesanya for the title, he lost it to him in April 2023. He’s 8-2 in his career at 36 years old, while Procházka is 31.
The UFC average for significant strikes per minute is just 3.4. For Procházka, he’s up to 5.77. He comes after his opponents ferociously. Meanwhile, Pereira likes to pick his opponents off in various ways. 41% of his strikes are to the head, 34.7% to the body, and 24.3% to the legs.
Pereira is moving up a weight class here, so it’ll be intriguing to see how his cardio performs.
Procházka vs. Pereira Best Bet
Jiří Procházka to win at +120 with Bovada
Procházka might be the underdog here, but we like him to win. He hasn’t fought in over a year, but he has plenty of time to get back in fight shape and recover from his shoulder injury. As mentioned, Pereira is moving up a weight class, and while his stamina and cardio are typically quite good at middleweight, it’s unclear what that’ll be like at light heavyweight, especially against an aggressive fighter like Procházka. As mentioned, he lands a lot of significant strikes, and he should have the edge against Pereira in the grappling game. Pereira did beat Blachowicz, but he didn’t have an exceedingly “commanding” performance. Take the +120 value on Procházka here.
