UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman to make boxing debut at 58-years-old

Former UFC heavyweight champion and UFC Hall of Fame inductee Mark Coleman will make his professional boxing debut on October 14.

Coleman, 58, (16-10 in MMA), will face Montell Griffin (50-8-1 in boxing) in a Celebrity Boxing bout according to a report from Drake Riggs of MMA Mania.

Coleman retired from mixed martial arts competition in 2010. “The Hammer” last fought in UFC 109’s main event, suffering a second-round rear-naked choke submission loss to Randy Couture in a Light Heavyweight Hall of Famer clash. Coleman became the first UFC heavyweight champion when he defeated Dan Severn at UFC 12 in 1997. He was inducted to the UFC Hall of Fame in 2008.

Griffin, 53, last fought in Aug. 2011, earning a unanimous decision win over DeAndrey Abron. He is known as the first man to defeat Roy Jones Jr., while also holding multiple wins over James Toney. “Ice” has captured IBF, NABF, WBC, IBC, and USBA titles during his career. In 1992, Griffin competed as part of the U.S. Olympic team in boxing.
