Alex Oliveira cruises to win over Peter Sobotta

Alex Oliveira, UFC part ways after 22 fights

Alex Oliveira is no longer a UFC fighter.

On Monday, it was reported by the Twitter account UFC Roster Watch that Oliveira was removed from the fan rankings pool. Shortly after that, multiple outlets confirmed the news with Oliveira’s manager that the promotion opted against re-signing the Brazilian after he fought out his contract.

“It’s an unfortunate perspective of the sport that a fighter like Alex Oliveira, who winning or losing always lets it all hang out, ends up not being renewed after a string of losses,” Alex Davis, Oliveira’s manager said to MMAJunkie. “But that is the present moment in MMA. Alex thanks the UFC for the opportunities! At 34 and healthy, he is sure to rebuild and put on many more great fights for everyone!”

Alex Oliveira (22-12-1 and two No Contest) last fought back at UFC 272 against Kevin Holland where he suffered a second-round TKO loss which marked his fourth straight setback. On the losing skid, he also lost to Niko Price by decision, Randy Brown by submission, and Shavkat Rakhmonov by submission. His last win came in July of 2020 as he beat Peter Sobotta by decision after edging out Max Griffin by split decision at UFC 248.

Oliveira made his UFC debut in 2015 and suffered a submission loss to Gilbert Burns. Since then, ‘Cowboy’ was one of the more popular fighters on the roster as he always remained active. He headlined a card against Donald Cerrone in 2016 which was his lone UFC main event. In his UFC tenure, he holds notable wins over Carlos Condit by submission, Tim Means by submission, and a KO win over Will Brooks.

According to his manager, the plan for Oliveira is to sign somewhere else soon and get a fight in the very near future. Even after parting ways with the UFC, the Brazilian still has the desire to fight and compete at the highest level.
