Ashley Nichols, pro MMA fighter, dead at 37

Ashley Nichols, 37, a Canadian mixed martial artist and proud member of the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, has died.  As of press time, no official cause of death has been announced.

Nichols, who competed in kickboxing and muay thai, was also a professional MM fighter with a7-4 record. She was expected to return to action next month at Pallas Athena Women’s Fighting Championship PAWFC 3 at the Nutrien Western Events Centre at Stampede Park.

She was a former LFA title challenger and Invicta FC fighter

Nichols’ former coach, Jeff Harrison, shared a heartfelt message on social media:

“I was fortunate enough to be her mentor and coach at the beginning of that journey,” Harrison wrote on Instagram. “I, along with so many others admired Ashley for being so courageous, driven and resilient. She was proof that you could work hard and improve your situation in life, and literally become the best on planet earth regardless of where you come from.

“She wanted to be the best. Demons haunted her, but she wanted to be the best.”
