Brendan Allen submits Sam Alvey at UFC Vegas 47

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, February 5, 2022 for UFC Vegas 47, headlined by middleweight contenders Jack Hermansson and Sean Strickland.

Co-headlining the event is also a middleweight contest, this one between rising prospects Puna Soriano and Nick Maximov.

A short-notice light-heavyweight bout took place in the middle of the main card between veteran Sam Alvey and rising prospect Brendan Allen.

Alvey was initially slated against Ian Heinisch at 185 lbs, but Heinisch was forced to withdraw from the contest, and was replaced by Allen.

Alvey was 0-6-1 in his last seven bouts coming in tonight, though there was an early stoppage, as well as a couple close decisions in there, while Allen had lost his most recent bout coming in.

Continue reading to see how this light-heavyweight encounter went down:

Official Result: Brendan Allen def. Sam Alvey via submission (bulldog choke) at 2:10 of round two

Alvey is circling around the outskirts of the octagon, as he generally does, allowing Allen the cage control.

This appears to be working out for him early on though, as he’s stuffed Allen’s early takedown attempts and landed some crisp shots while Allen was coming in.

Keep in mind, though Allen is the biggest favorite on the card tonight, he has been finished via strikes in two of his last four outings. Alvey can catch anyone on any given night, he has very sneaky power.

However, Allen hurts Alvey badly at the end of the first, though Alvey holds on until the bell sounds.

Allen the continues to press the action into the second round, and a couple minutes in catches Alvey with a vicious left hook. This again dropped Alvey, and Allen proceeded to jump on his back and finish the fight with a rear naked choke, which turned into a bulldog choke as it got locked in.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
