(Full interview with Phumi Knuta above)
“Turbo” Phumi Nkuta came, saw, and conquered.
“Twenty full minutes as a 3-0 fighter. I fought for twenty minutes and not just won and dominated every second,” Nkuta reflects on his performance. “I put on a furious pace that I know people can’t even keep for 15 minutes!”
Nkuta took on former champion, Alberto Trujillo, convincingly winning every round against the more experienced Trujillo to a Unanimous Decision win. Ironically, Trujillo captured the CFFC flyweight strap via head kick KO against Santo Curatolo on the same night that Nkuta made his CFFC debut where he defeated Ben Coyle via 2nd round Americana.
Following his successful promotional debut, Nkuta came into this bout with a chip on his shoulder and ready to put his arsenal on full display. Proving he’s the full package, skill wise, “Turbo” seamlessly transitioned from his dynamic striking into his relentless takedowns with an absolute unequivocal pace. Nkuta handily dictated where and how the fight went at all times.
Looking ahead, the newly crowned champ mentions, “I don’t mind defending the belt, Nkuta says. “If they want me to defend the belt against someone, I’m in,” he says. However, “if Dana comes calling, I’m accepting that call,” he says. “I’m ready for the UFC,” Nkuta convincingly claims. “I’m ready strength wise. I’m ready power, speed, agility wise. I’m ready cardio wise. And talk about confidence…Come on, brother! I’m ready,” Nkuta assures.
“I’m too fast. I can’t be hit, keep shooting those shots. Keep trying to hit the target and trust me, everyone’s gonna miss,” Nkuta happily says to any future opponents.
