Ciryl Gane reacts following title fight loss to Francis Ngannou at UFC 270

Former UFC interim heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane has reacted following his title fight loss to Francis Ngannou at UFC 270.

Gane was actually the betting favorite heading into the UFC 270 main event, and he won the first two rounds against Ngannou and appeared to be in the driver’s seat to unify the belts. The problem is, he ended up losing a unanimous decision after Ngannou switched his game plan on the fly and implemented a grappling-based approach in the final three rounds. While Gane did get the full championship-fight experience of making it the full 25 minutes, at the end of the day, he was still declared the loser.

After taking a few days off to think about things, Gane on Tuesday morning finally reacted to Saturday’s loss. Take a look at the message that “Bon Gamin” shared on his social media about the loss to Ngannou.

Ciryl Gane: We didn’t come this far to only come this far. Thank you all for the amazing support

It will be interesting to see what the UFC does with Gane next given he just lost to the No. 1 heavyweight in the sport. There is no shame in losing to Ngannou, but the intriguing thing about him is that there is no guarantee he will still be a UFC-contracted fighter by this time next year. That means Gane could easily take another big fight against another top-five opponent, such as former champion Stipe Miocic, and jump back into title contention. If Ngannou does leave the UFC, there is a good chance Gane could still end up fighting for the belt against someone else at some point. For now, he will likely take a few months off to heal up, improve, get better, and then return sometime later this year for another big fight.

What do you think is next for Ciryl Gane after losing to Francis Ngannou for the title at UFC 270?
