Cody Law seeking a breakthrough performance at Bellator 301

Cody Law will be making his tenth walk to the Bellator cage at Bellator 301 on Nov. 17.

While it is his tenth walk within the Bellator promotion, it is also his tenth professional walk as Law began his professional career by signing with Bellator despite not ever having a professional fight under his belt.

While he never had a professional fight, Law did have a great martial arts background as he was an NCAA Division II national champion wrestler, and he went 5-0 as an amateur MMA fighter.

That experience made Bellator want to sign Law and right out of the gate he was looked at as one the promotions hottest prospects.

At first Law raced out of the gate to a 6-0 record and looked so good that he even cracked the top 10 Bellator featherweight rankings.

Then came the developmental stage that can be tough on any young fighters’ career as Law dropped two fights in a row. Both of those losses could have gone Law’s way, but at the end of the day they show as a loss on the record.

Law never made an excuse for the losses and worked to come back better and in his last fight against Edwin Chavez, Law looked great and got back into the win column with a unanimous decision win.

In that win, the outside eye saw what appeared to be a great performance, but Law himself has been critical about it.

Whether it was his two losses or his last win, Law has felt that he’s been a little uncomfortable inside of the cage. Some that was his raw youth in the sport and some it has just been the jitters every fighter experiences.

Now Law feels like he’s got all of that under control. Learning on the fly like Law did is tough, but he feels like since he’s been maturing as a fighter, he’s been getting the hang of things and he’s now ready for a breakout performance.

At Bellator 301, Law will be taking on Jefferson Pontes and Law feels that he’s in a great spot mentality and physically and this going to be the performance he needs to flip the script back to where it needs to go.

In fact, he believes once the breakout performance comes, he’s primed to go on a big run through the featherweight division.

Prior to Bellator 301, Law spoke with MyMMANews about his upcoming fight, his development as a fighter, snapping his losing streak and the custom-made suit he’ll be wearing on fight night.
