Darren Till should move back down to welterweight, says Dricus Du Plessis

UFC middleweight Darren Till should move back down to the welterweight division, says his recent opponent at UFC 282, Dricus Du Plessis.

In what was the “Fight of the Night” at UFC 282, Du Plessis was able to submit Till in the third round of their back-and-forth fight. The first round was all Du Plessis, before Till was able to turn things around in the second. However, Du Plessis was able to get Till in a dominant position on the ground in the third round, and then finish him off with a submission for the biggest victory of his UFC career to date.

For Du Plessis, this win gives him four straight victories in the UFC Octagon, and he’ll likely be ranked in the top 10 now that he’s gotten by Till. But for Till, this was a terrible loss. The Brit has now lost five of his last six fights overall and it’s difficult to see him staying ranked in the top 15 of the division following this defeat.

If you ask Du Plessis, Till is in the wrong weight class. Speaking to the media following UFC 282, Du Plessis suggested that Till should move back down to the UFC welterweight division instead, a division where he once fought for the title.

“I think Darren proved he’s an incredible fighter, but I do believe if he wants to make any run at being successful, he needs to fight at welterweight. Honestly felt that tonight. I’m not hating on Darren Till at all, I have all the respect in the world, but he is not strong enough or big enough to fight at middleweight,” Du Plessis said (via MMAjunkie.com).

We shall see if Till actually does make the move back down to 170 lbs, but given the size discrepancy he faced against Du Plessis, it does seem like a good idea at this point.

Do you agree with Dricus Du Plessis that Darren Till should move back down to welterweight?
