Kickboxing champion Cedric Doumbe makes UFC debut this September

UFC Fight Night 209 is coming along quite nicely, as the UFC continues to add exciting bouts to the card.

UFC Fight Night 209 is to go down on September 3, 2022, live from the Accor Arena in Paris, France.

Headlining the event is a clash of heavyweight contenders in no. 1 ranked former interim champion Ciryl Gane and no. 3 ranked Tai Tuivasa, and it is to be co-headlined by another former champion, this one no. 1 ranked Robert Whittaker, who faces no. 3 ranked Marvin Vettori at 185 lbs.

Another incredibly exciting contest that’s recently been added to the card is a welterweight showdown between one of the best kickboxers in the entire world, Cedric Doumbe, who faces Darian Weeks in a three round encounter.

This is such a very exciting match up for so many reasons.

Cedric Doumbe hasn’t fought in kickboxing since January of last year, where he improved his record in the sport to 75-7-1 with 45 knockouts. He’s since turned his focus to mixed martial arts, where he debuted in November of last year.

The Cameroonian-French talent followed that win up with another earlier this month at MMAGP, improving his record to 2-0 with two knockouts. Now he makes his UFC debut against Darian Weeks, who’s 5-2 as a professional.

Weeks is a talented striker himself, though he’s gone 0-2 thus far into his UFC career, losing to Bryan Barberena and Ian Garry in those two outings.

It’s always super exciting seeing combat athletes from other sports turn to MMA, and Doumbe is no exception. He’s one of the most athletic and dangerous strikers on the globe.

Below is a list of accomplishments throughout his 83-fight kickboxing career:

  • Voted Fighter of the Year for Combat Press & Liverkick (2016)
  • Two-time Glory kickboxing welterweight champion (five title defenses)
  • A1 Gran Prix tournament finalist (2014)
  • A1 World Gran Prix champion (2015)
  • Two-time A1 WGP tournament champion (2016)
  • WAKO K-1 middleweight World Champion
  • Partouche kickboxing champion (2015)
  • WKA European champion
  • WKA world champion
  • 75-7-1 (45 knockouts)
  • Defeated UFC lightweight Brad Riddell in kickboxing
  • 2-0 against former pound-for-pound no. 1 kickboxer in the world Nieky Holzken
  • Left kickboxing on seven-fight win streak (20-2 in last 22, both defeats via split decision)

Who do you see coming out on top in this epic welterweight showdown at UFC Fight Night 209?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
